The musicians of the Esmé Quartet, 2018 HSBC Laureate of the Académie, honours two of their fellow countrywomen, the Korean composers Unsuk Chin et Soo Yeon Lyuh, as well as the chef-d’œuvre Death and the Maiden, the allegory through which Schubert pays a tribute just as much to the genre of the lied as he does to the genre of the string quartet.
