Fluctuating between energy and despair, this programme focuses on the figure of Mathilde Zemlinsky – the wife, sister, friend or muse – whose destructive passion also evokes the shift towards atonality and the thirst for aesthetic emancipation for which 20th century Vienna was the epicentre.
