KINAN AZMEH’S CITY BAND

COMPOSITIONS BY KINAN AZMEH, CLARINETTIST, FOR HIS JAZZ QUARTET

Born in Syria, Kinan Azmeh has had a remarkable career as a classical clarinetist which saw him collaborate with the most prestigious Western ensembles. But his long experience in other musical areas, especially Mediterranean ones, and his imagination as an improviser lead him quite naturally to jazz and composition. Bringing together musicians from different worlds, he founded Kinan Azmeh’s City Band in 2006 in New York. The ensemble became popular immediately thanks to the clever alchemy it operated between the classical heritage, jazz and the music of Syria. It’s a concert of unusual combinations we’re treated to this evening, full of energy and virtuosic creativity.
