OLGA NEUWIRTH …miramondo multiplo…
MICHAEL JARRELL Cassandre
The artists of the Académie’s Instrumental Residency and their tutors from the Ensemble Intercontemporain, under the direction of Pierre Bleuse and Sora Elisabeth Lee, the resident woman conductor, come together in three large theatrical works bringing to life the characters of female clairvoyants, and investigating once again the relationships between partners in the midst of a group. A commission from the composer Diana Soh offers us a feminine pendant to Songs for a Mad King, given at the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume. …miramondo multiplio… for solo trumpet and ensemble by Olga Neuwirth (2006) gives homage to this splendid instrument while imagining new relationships between the individual and the group, based on mutual listening. Finally Cassandre, a monodrama for an actress with an instrumental and electronic ensemble by Michael Jarrell (1994), based on the challenging work by Christa Wolf, rehabilitates the famous but misunderstood prophetess within a feminist perspective.
