Aix en Juin 2016
Prélude to the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence
Share
Now a classic of the Aix summer calendar, Aix en Juin provides a festive introduction to the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Since it was created in 2013, the event has brought together an increasingly numerous and enthusiastic audience around a varied programme of concerts, recitals, master classes, opera rehearsals etc., introducing the July performances and providing an opportunity to explore diverse musical worlds. Entry is either free or at a reduced rate. It is also an opportunity to discover some exceptional artists, young talents of the Académie and famous musicians, as well as some creative initiatives run by the Festival’s education and outreach departments with non-professionals.
Aix en Juin focuses unremittingly on involving people and bringing them together, starting with a festive event in the heart of the city, and an exceptional evening of musical encounters with some of the artists who will be performing in the Festival. And to close this prelude with a flourish and give July the welcome it deserves, what could be better than a PARADE[S] concert? This traditional event, which is now part of the DNA of Aix en Juin, offers a free concert on the cours Mirabeau, where the crowds will thrill to a programme alternating American gospel, traditional African songs and the operatic repertoire, performed by the Cape Town Opera Chorus.
