Every year, the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée offers talented young musicians from Europe and the Mediterranean basin coaching in outreach and artistic awareness at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, with Passerelles, its educative and discovery department.
This program aims to support young artists in developing their creativity and acquiring new skills in outreaching audiences. With the ongoing mentorship of Mark Withers, it offers a concrete coaching period, followed by real professional experience, under a work contract with the Festival d'Aix.
Mark Withers, originally a clarinettist, has many years' experience as an educator and coordinator of discovery projects, in particular alongside the London Symphony Orchestra as well as with numerous organisations that promote access to music for all. Over the past 10 years, he has trained a large number of young artists from the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée, and has collaborated on several participatory projects with the Passerelles department.
For the annual “Passerelles Training Day”, the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée is offering 5 selected young artists the chance to become outreach workshops leaders. They will have to collectively design and lead some of the workshops to present the 2024 opera program of the Festival d’Aix, outreaching professionals in the social, medico-social, health and educational sectors, who will in turn relay it to their communities.
