Session open to young classical musicians of the finest level from conservatories, universities and higher music institutes in the Mediterranean basin.

Level required
The Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée is looking for high-caliber, high-potential young artists who are either young professionals or are completing their post-graduate studies in one of the countries of the Mediterranean basin, with a view to becoming professionals.

The language used during the symphony session is English.

  • Cyprus – If you are already part of the Cyprus Youth Orchestra (CYSO), please contact directly the orchestra. Candidates from Cyprus who are not members of CYSO may nevertheless audition in another country, or apply by video.

  • SpainParticipation is restricted to JONDE members (JONDE organizes an internal calling to recruit musicians for the Symphonic session of the OJM). Any Spanish candidate who is not a member of JONDE may nevertheless audition in another country, or apply by video.

More auditions dates and venues will be announced at a later date.

Video applications are open for countries where auditions will not be held in 2024 (Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon, Morocco, Monaco, Syria, Turkey, Palestine, Israel) or if it’s impossible for the candidate to travel to the audition. To apply by video, please complete this audition application form.

AUDITIONS

If you meet the above criteria, you can apply to audition.

Artists participating in the symphonic session are selected by audition:

  • Candidates for the OJM symphonic session must attend an audition, and must present the program of orchestra excerpts for their instrument, available online, as well as 1 solo piece of their choice (unaccompanied).
  • The selection panel is made up of OJM's Deputy Director and Associate Conductor. Some auditions may be held in the presence of the local partner.

  • If there is no face-to-face audition in your country of residence, you can submit the compulsory orchestral excerpts and 1 piece of your choice (without piano accompaniment) by video-application, via an online form.

  • In countries where auditions are held, the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée will give priority to artists who have made the effort to travel to a face-to-face audition at the time of selection.

  • Selection results will be announced in April 2025, not at the end of your audition.

The Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée does not cover any audition-related expenses for candidates.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The Festival d'Aix will organize and pay for the young artists selected to take part in the 2025 Symphonic Session:

  • Editing an internship agreement for the all session
  • Educational and mentoring expenses
  • 1 return economy-class trip to Aix-en-Provence - For trips of 1,000 km or less, please note that priority will be given to train travel.
  • Accommodation in Aix-en-Provence, in a university residence
  • Breakfasts, lunches and dinners

The orchestra is led by the OJM production team and a team of chaperones specially dedicated to welcoming and listening to the young people on a daily basis.

In the event of cancellation by the artist of his/her participation in the Symphonic Session, please note that all expenses already incurred by the Festival d'Aix for the artist's participation must be reimbursed by the artist to the Festival d'Aix.
