STANDARDISED STRUCTURES IN THE 2025 SET DESIGNS

The Collectif 17h25 is made up of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Opéra de Paris, the Opéra de Lyon and the Théâtre de La Monnaie. It leads research and development work devoted to ecological transition in the design of sets and structures for cultural organisations.
In 2022, the collective launched the STANDARD STRUCTURES project, aimed at reducing carbon emissions, resource consumption, and energy costs related to manufacturing, transport and storage of sets. A series of workshops followed, bringing together technical teams from the five institutions to explore, experiment with and implement this innovative project. A prototype was developed and tested in several opera houses.
This summer, the Festival d’Aix will adopt these standardised structures in the construction of its sets. 100% of the set structure for La Calisto, 35% for Louise and 35% for Don Giovanni will be built using these components, marking the first concrete implementation of this standardisation initiative within the Festival.
