COLLECTIVE COMPOSITION BY THE OJM
MODEST MUSSORGSKY Pictures at an Exhibition

Since its creation, the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée has sought to bring together talented young artists from all shores of the Mediterranean and to foster dialogue between the cultures of the countries concerned. The eagerly awaited collective composition featured in the programme of this concert is a prime example of that endeavour. It is the product of a symphonic session mentored by Fabrizio Cassol, with the collaboration of a quintet of musicians rooted in Mediterranean traditions. Led by its new conductor Sora Elisabeth Lee, the OJM will also be performing Mussorgsky's breathtaking Pictures at an Exhibition, Kodály's Dances of Galánta, and Ernő Dohnányi's Variations on a Nursery Tune, with the collaboration of pianist Aris Alexander Blettenberg.

This concert is part of the Saison Méditerranée 2026 by Institut français programme.

A PHOTO REPORT ON THE COLLECTIVE COMPOSITION SESSION IN CAIRO

For over 12 years, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence has been running sessions of the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée (OJM) across a number of cities throughout the Mediterranean region. These residencies are dedicated to the professional development of young composer-performers and to the emergence of new repertoires, shaped by the richness and cultural diversity of the Mediterranean. A look back at the OJM’s latest collective composition session, held from 11 to 19 April 2026, in Egypt. Five young artists from Tunisia, Greece, Egypt, and France came together for the session under the mentorship of composer and jazz musician Fabrizio Cassol.
