Once again at Festival time, Aix-en-Provence transforms itself into a grand celebration of song, welcoming not only the finest operatic voices, but all vocal traditions, including jazz. Discover exceptional artists  in distinctive recitals throughout July.

The leading opera singers on the international scene will be present in Aix: Stéphane Degout joins forces with Pygmalion for an excursion into the very heart of German Romantic music (7 July); tenor Benjamin Bernheim generously shares his favourite repertoire, combining beloved melodies by Massenet, Bizet, Duparc, Puccini, Verdi and Berlioz at the Grand Théâtre de Provence (8 July), while Michael Spyres, the celebrated American baritenor, who this year takes on the role of the Emperor in Die Frau ohne Schatten, takes us on a journey to the heart of the post-Romantic world of  lieder by Wagner, Mahler and Strauss (13 July). Two immense sopranos complete this quartet: Sonya Yoncheva will be making her debut at the Festival alongside Cappella Mediterranea and Leonardo García-Alarcón for a journey from Renaissance music to the most dazzling Latin Baroque (14 July), while Ailyn Pérez, internationally acclaimed in the great roles of the operatic repertoire, makes one of her very first appearances in France with a programme infused with Hispanic colours, echoing her own personal heritage (17 July).

Long a favoured setting for the finest voices in all their diversity, the Festival also invites audiences to discover the poetic and refined world of the Lebenese tenor Karim Sulayman (10 July); in a duet with guitarist Sean Shibe, the musicians will offer us a deeply moving concert that weaves its way through melodies by Purcell and Monteverdi and folk songs from all corners of the globe, creating a moment of grace at the crossroads of cultures. Finally, vocalist jazz star Samara Joy will bring this season of recitals to a splendid close, on the stage of the Théâtre de l’Archevêché, reviving beneath the stars the grand tradition of the Great American Songbook with a seven-piece band (18 July).

The Festival d’Aix artists await you!
