Happy birthday, György Kurtág! For his second concert at the Conservatoire Darius Milhaud, Pierre-Laurent Aimard has put together a programme celebrating the Hungarian composer's 100th birthday. Kurtág's friendship with the French pianist, which began when they met in 1978, has recently resulted in the release of a recorded anthology from Játékok (Games) for piano. In the same light-hearted and miniaturist spirit, this concert has boldly opted for a spatialised, strolling format, with several pianos tuned in various ways strategically placed around the hall and played one after the other by Pierre-Laurent Aimard; so that a continuous series of short pieces – not only by Kurtág, but also by Schubert, Schoenberg and Mozart – results a musical flow without intermissions or silences.
