ORCHESTRE DE PARIS
ESA-PEKKA SALONEN — MONUMENT OF THE MODERN SYMPHONIC REPERTOIRE
OLIVIER MESSIAEN
Turangalîla-Symphonie
The Orchestre de Paris, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, will commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of Messiaen’s death by performing his most famous work: the ambitious and fascinating Turangalîla-Symphonie, which was first performed at the Festival d’Aix in 1950. It is “a love song, an ode to joy” with a rhythmic virtuosity and a profusion of extraordinary colours, which requires both extraordinary pianist and performer of the famous Ondes Martenot. A symphony orchestra in all its glory and a total performance!
