2025 INSTRUMENTAL RESIDENCY
Share
24 JUNE — 7 JULY 2025
Residency designed for trained string quartets who wish to specialise, and develop their skills, in a contemporary repertoire.
For over 25 years, the Académie du Festival d'Aix has been committed to nurturing a new generation of artists, by creating inspiring residencies that combine tradition and innovation. The Académie du Festival d'Aix 2025 Instrumental Residency is aimed at quartets in the early and middle stages of their careers. These artists in residence will develop their expertise in a contemporary repertoire.
Invited for the first time in 2022, the Quatuor Diotima will take over the reins of this residency to accompany the musicians in residence in the development of their technique and their mastery of the ensemble music repertoire. In addition, composer Unsuk Chin will be invited to give the residency a special focus on contemporary creation.
The Instrumental Residency is organised into working sessions and public masterclasses, musical encounters, mediation activities and local concerts. It offers a variety of concert opportunities (including two world premieres - commissioned by the Académie) and inspiration through immersion at the heart of the Festival d'Aix's activities. The framework of exchange, improvement and experimentation between confirmed artists of different generations enables participants to engage in a decompartmentalized reflection of their profession.
This residency is conceived as a space for exchange, reflection and practice between artists on instrumental playing, repertoires, creation and music as a universal language. It invites participants to think about their profession in a changing world, where curiosity and openness are key.
The 2025 Instrumental Residency is supported by Adami.
