This is the course for you if you believe that musicians are versatile artists and loyal citizens who want the art they passionately endorse to reach the masses, and that their ability to interact with audiences – no matter if they’ are newcomers, youngsters or remote – is both asset and source of mutual benefit!

With this in mind, the Académie du Festival d’Aix has designed the Relay musicians mediation course to address issues surrounding the transmission, introduction and exploration of music for young and remote audiences through creativity and interaction.

The course is organised in one-off themed training sessions held in Aix-en-Provence throughout the year. They are directed by renowned artists who share a love for pushing boundaries by creating innovative projects. Tutors include the clarinettist and community education projects leader Mark Withers (LSO Discovery), dancer and choreographer Geneviève Sorin, saxophonist Raphaël Imbert and stage director Sybille Wilson.

The sessions use a creative process of experimentation and improvisation for singers and musicians from all backgrounds and musical genres (classical, jazz, current and traditional music, etc.). The idea is to help these musicians find employment as well as to fuel their personal quest for excellence and their drive to share their art. Young Relay musicians and singers have the chance to put what they have learnt into practice with field projects in partnership with Passerelles, the Festival’s educational and outreach department.

- The modules are complementary and designed as an all-round course although they can be taken individually.
- Musicians’ travel and accommodation are covered by the Festival.
- Training is free (selection based on application).
