Maurice Ravel Trois Chansons Madécasses, for baritone, flute, cello and piano
In addition to singing the role of Pelléas in the new Festival d’Aix production, baritone Stéphane Degout lends his sumptuous voice to the cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras for a concert that promises to be unforgettable. Le Poète inachevé, which the Festival d’Aix has commissioned from the composer, Gilbert Amy, is the highlight of this musical evening. Britten’s cello suite, written for Rostropovich, provides a majestic continuation with its nine movements charged with emotion. Inspired by Madagascan poetic folklore, the Chansons Madécasses brings together voice and an instrumental trio.
