Ourania Lampropoulou

Les Voix de Silvacane will resound with vocal splendor under the inspiring arches of the Abbaye de Silvacane in La Roque d'Anthéron on June 17 and 18. An exploration of the voice in all its diversity, across centuries and continents!

Singer Marika Papagika, who originally comes from a small island in the Dodecanese, grew up in Egypt before moving to the United States in 1913. In the Roaring Twenties New York, she became the figurehead of a new genre of urban music – the “rebetiko” – developed by the Greek diaspora in large American cities.
The musicians of the PHONO Ensemble, Maria Simoglou (voice) and Ourania Lampropoulou (santouri), renew her immense repertoire, born of the meeting of Greek musical traditions with the New World’s modernity.
