The eminent professor András Keller, of the Keller Quartet, and David Alberman, a member of the Arditti Quartet for nearly a decade, will be supervising the masterclasses for young string quartets who are interested in refining their approach to all repertoires, from the greatest classical scores to those with the most contemporary of language.
Wolfgang Rihm, an important figure in today’s musical landscape – and whose opera Jakob Lenz is on the bill at this year’s festival – will take center stage in this new residency.
Just like the Van Kuijk and the Tana Quartets, who will be performing in July as part of the Incises series, the four quartets selected for the residency will perform some of the twenty string quartets, thirteen of which are numbered, that we owe to this German composer, who dedicated many of his works to the Arditti Quartet.

With the complicity of Mark Withers, the residency also offers the opportunity for outreach work in order to raise the public’s awareness of how chamber music is listened to and practised. The ensembles will also benefit from wise advice on career development. The Christiane Louis's specialist expertise covers all the practical aspects that an ensemble might expect to deal with: self-promotional communication, development, dissemination, etc.
