THE YOUNG OPERA MAKERS 2016-2020 PROGRAMME DREW TO AN END

For ten years, enoa (European Network of Opera Academies), which was founded by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, has supported new generation of artists training and operatic creations. This programme, which has already sustained significant and valuable rewards for the opera of tomorrow, comes to an end this month with a very positive outcome.

In May 2016, with the support of the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, was launched a new enoa programme named YOUNG OPERA MAKERS 2016-2020. This programme aims to give young creators and performers the keys to their occupational integration and international career development as well as broaden their perspectives and nourish their creative ambitions in a rapidly changing industry. enoa appears as a meeting point for a wide community of artists and institutions brought together with a shared aim: to contribute to the vitality of opera while maintaining high standards of quality.

During those four years, thanks to tailored training courses, consisting of a wide variety of activities hosted by enoa members all over Europe, enoa has supported more than 870 creators and performers, welcomed 86 workshops and artists-in-residencies and supported the creation and production of 9 operas:

  • Phone Call to Hades, Cathy van Eck, Blanka Radoczy, Isabelle Kranabetter (2016 – world premiere at the Münchener Biennale, Munich)
  • Menuet, Daan Janssens, Fabrice Murgia (2017 – world premiere  at deSingel – Antwerpen, Belgium)
  • Erismena, Francesco Cavalli, Jean Bellorini (2017 – new production at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence)
  • Il était une fois…La Flûte enchantée, Ana Seara upon W.A Mozart (2017 – world premiere at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel – Waterloo, Belgium)
  • i c o n, Frederik Neyrinck, Atelier Bildraum, Sabryna Pierre (2018 – world premiere at the Next Festival – Kortrijk, Belgium)
  • The Sleeping Thousand, Adam Maor, Yonathan Levy (2019 – world premiere at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence)
  • Be My Superstar, Simon Voseček, Alexandra Lacroix & Yann Verburgh (2019 – world premiere at LOD – Gent, Belgium)
  • Le Silence des ombres, Benjamin Attahir, Olivier Lexa (2019 – world premiere at La Monnaie / De Munt – Brussels)
  • A Song for the Moon, Mathilde Wantenaar, Béatrice Lachaussée (2020 – world premiere at the Dutch National Opera – Amsterdam)
