Dear festivalgoers,
Last autumn, on publishing the 2021 Festival program, I suggested to you that we “dream together” of a festival edition to mark with this comeback a great renewal. Today, I am delighted to announce that we are on target to achieve this great dream. The 2021 edition of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence will be taking place virtually as planned.
My team and I are making every effort to prepare this great edition in the safest sanitary conditions we can imagine. The countdown has started: 750 artists are arriving from all corners of the globe to rehearse in the various locations, our stages have come alive with complex sets, rehearsals are in full swing, you can feel the creative momentum building up; and soon—very soon—it will be our great pleasure to welcome you to our theatres.
My deepest wish is that this 2021 season, which was still just a dream a few weeks ago, will be filled with much enjoyment and inspired stimulation: the pleasure of reuniting, the pleasure of performing, the pleasure of discovering or rediscovering masterpieces, and, of course, the pleasure of sharing moments of emotion and magic together as an audience.
The most recent government announcements will allow us to expand the audiences for our performances. For this reason, I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you that we have released new contingents of tickets which are now available for sale for all operas and concert performances of the 2021 season.
We will remain extremely vigilant in implementing the necessary protocols to protect the health of our audiences, our artists, and our festival teams. This effort will require a commitment from everyone involved, and the audience is expected to play a major role in the success of this project.
Let us open the festivities together with Aix en juin, the free pre-festival which focusses on the city before immersing ourselves in the rich 2021 program. I’m both pleased and proud that this historic edition marking the return of the festival after two years silence can finally be shared with as many people as possible.
