(NEARLY) THE ENTIRE FESTIVAL IN A SINGLE CONCERT

The Festival d’Aix-en-Provence will be bringing together some of the individual performers who have marked this 2021 edition, alongside musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra (Tristan und Isolde, Innocence), around the work of Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, whose new opera, Innocence, has received unanimous acclaim.
Baritone Stéphane Degout (Ford in Falstaff) will join forces with soprano Beate Mordal (Lilly in Innocence) and virtuoso violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja (special guest for the series of chamber music concerts) in a single concert, conducted by Susanna Mälkki and Clément Mao-Takacs (Innocence).
The programme includes a suite from Kaija Saariaho’s first opera, L’Amour de loin, as well as The Oceanides and the Seventh Symphony by her fellow countryman Jean Sibelius, and the Violin Concerto by Igor Stravinsky, a great disciple of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, whose opera, The Golden Cockerel, will close this edition.
These musical fireworks will be performed on Bastille Day, 14 July, at 8 p.m. at the Grand Théâtre de Provence.
