Since 6 April 2020, the Medinea (MEDiterranean INcubator of Emerging Artists) network has been gradually unveiling the first modules of its Medinea series. The first two series, which focus on “Professional Development for Artists” and “Instant Collective Creation,” have kicked off this new training programme for young artists.

Through a collection of videos (presented by Christiane Louis, head of the Career Development Unit at the Philharmonie de Paris), articles, and methodological factsheets, the first series, “Professional Development for Artists”, aims to offer young artists the essential keys to launching their careers in music. Two modules are currently available: the first, Outreach Action, focuses on developing awareness and sharing musical knowledge and appreciation with the public, while the second, Your Network, provides artists with the necessary tools to identify and integrate their professional networks.

The second series, “Instant Collective Creation,” offers both insights into the issues surrounding collective creation and the ideas that this form of creation inspires, via a special approach by Fabrizio Cassol, musical director of the Medinea sessions of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra. Each of the first two modules—structured around the harmony of rhythm and the harmonisation of maqams, respectively—develops young artists’ awareness of a specific aspect of collective creation in an intercultural context.

All of the videos for these series, which were shot during Medinea sessions of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra, are subtitled in French, English and Arabic so that they may be enjoyed by a wider audience.

The Medinea series receives support from the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, the Orange Foundation, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
