The new production of Tristan und Isolde, a major event in the world of opera this summer, marks Wagner’s return to the Festival d’Aix.

  • In 2006, and then every year through 2009, Richard Wagner was programmed for the first time at the Festival d’Aix with his Tetralogy, under the baton of the celebrated British conductor Sir Simon Rattle. After a twelve-year absence, this giant composer in the history of opera is returning to the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
  • Wagner will be making his big comeback to Aix with the first production of Tristan und Isolde in the history of the Festival. This masterful representation of love and passion will be entering the Festival repertoire in July.
  • This major event features top-flight performers and artists: from the pit, Sir Simon Rattle will be conducting the London Symphony Orchestra, and will be joined, on stage, by Nina Stemme and Stuart Skelton, legendary performers in the title roles for the past two decades.
  • The staging by Australian director Simon Stone will bring to light all the contemporary relevance of this nearly sacred work, and underscore our relationship today with the mythology of great romantic love.
  • In Tristan und Isolde, Wagner created one of the most significant musical, artistic works in the modern West, and its influence still shines bright in a myriad of ways today.

Tristan und Isolde at Aix-en-Provence this July is a must-see event!
