This summer, the Académie’s Instrumental and Composition Residency will host four pianists and four emerging composers. The programme celebrates collaboration between musicians and composers, under the supervision of pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard and composers Clara Iannotta, Marco Stroppa and Mark Andre.

Selected via an international recruitment process in which seven different nationalities are represented, these artists in residence will perform two concerts during Aix en juin, and lead public masterclasses, music conferences, and outreach activities. They will also perform a final concert on 5 July, during the opening week of the Festival. The concerts will include the world premiere of four works composed by the resident artists and commissioned by the Festival, alongside other pieces of the contemporary repertoire.

In line with the creative legacy of the Académie, this residency is designed as a space for practice and exchange, and for reflection between instrumentalists and composers on instrumental performance, repertoires, creation, and music as a universal language. It encourages the participants to think about their profession in a changing world, in which curiosity and open-mindedness are key.

The 2026 Instrumental and Composition Residency is supported by the Societe Generale Foundation main corporate patron, and by Adami, Sacem and Caisse des Dépôts mécénat.
