2020 MYO: Applications Are Open!

Every year, the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO) offers training sessions for young musicians from the SUD Provence–Alpes–Côte d'Azur region and from twenty countries in the Mediterranean Basin, to help guide them on their future career paths. The instrumentalists selected receive high-level musical training, and benefit from an intercultural experience as part of an orchestra or an ensemble. They perform in concert at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, on stage at the Grand Théâtre de Provence or the Hôtel Maynier d’Oppède, and then go on tour in the region and in the Mediterranean Basin.
If you are between the ages of 16 and 26, are from the SUD region or from the Mediterranean Basin, and wish to enjoy an enriching experience in an orchestra or an ensemble, apply now. Applications are open!
From November 2019 to March 2020, the MYO will be selecting a hundred young musicians for its 2020 sessions:
- 1 symphonic session in Aix-en-Provence (France)
- 4 intercultural Medinea sessions in Valletta (Malta), Hammamet (Tunisia), Aix-en-Provence (France) and Nuoro (Italy)
SYMPHONIC SESSION — 2–18 JULY 2020
The symphonic session of the MYO offers an intercultural orchestral experience, with rehearsals and touring, in the inspiring setting of the Festival d’Aix. The session proposes high-level musical training by experienced artists from the LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, and work on great symphonic pieces under the baton of DUNCAN WARD.
INTERCULTURAL MEDINEA SESSIONS — FEBRUARY, MARCH, JULY AND AUGUST 2020

Each of the 4 intercultural Medinea sessions of the MYO offers an experience in improvisation and instantaneous composition, as part of an ensemble. Guided by the composer and jazz musician FABRIZIO CASSOL, a dozen young instrumentalists take a close look at intercultural creation as they experiment with techniques of collective composition, with the aim of creating a common musical production that also reveals the individual nature of each participant. This production is then performed in front of an audience during a concert that mixes musical traditions and new, original compositions.
