In 2022, technical teams of the Festival d’Aix partnered with the company Amadeus — an expert in the field of acoustic spatialization — and with conductor Raphaël Pichon to offer audiences at the Théâtre de l’Archevêché a better listening experience. Their goal was to remain faithful to the orchestras’ musical performances while still creating the sensation of being immersed in the sound of the voices and the instruments. A tailor-made sound system was designed in order to enhance the sound of the orchestra, chorus and soloists, and to adjust the acoustic balance within the Archevêché. Through painstaking, and highly specialized, work, they have transformed the venue into a veritable open-air laboratory, thus creating an optimal acoustic experience for all audiences!
