There can be nothing better than commissioning a beautiful piece of music to celebrate the 80th birthday of a composer who has had such a great impact on the history of music and on the Festival d’Aix! After the success of his opera Julie, performed in Aix in 2005, Belgian composer Philippe Boesmans returns for the symposium organised by Fondation Les Treilles with a richly promising creation for string quartet. And the evening event that will bring the Tana Quartet together with composer François Meïmoun is likely to be equally promising. Meïmoun, who took part in the Opera Creation Workshop at the Festival d’Aix in 2013, has carved out a prominent place for himself within the current artistic landscape. Similarly, the Tana Quartet, a regular guest at the Festival d’Aix and a 2013 HSBC laureate, is a staunch proponent of the music of today. This promises to be an evening dedicated to innovation!
