About

GUSTAV MAHLER Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen
RICHARD STRAUSS Four Last Songs op. 27
HENRI DUPARC

As if playing the Emperor in The Woman without a Shadow this year were not enough, American (bari)tenor Michael Spyres is also delving into the more intimate realm of recital. Accompanied by pianist Mathieu Pordoy, he will explore the post-Romanticism of the lieder of Wagner, Mahler, and Richard Strauss, combining them with melodies by Duparc. From passionate love to metaphysical quest, passage after passage the words and music sublime each other as Michael Spyres, not only an outstanding singer but also a fine storyteller and artist with a curiosity for distant horizons, takes us on an inner and liberating journey.
