The Vocal Residency’s final concert is always a favourite moment for audiences eager to discover tomorrow’s talents. This year, Edith Wiens, the residency’s faithful mentor, has set her sights on Mendelssohn’s Elijah—one of the most beautiful oratorios of the Romantic era—which was influenced by Bach and Handel and resonates with today’s religious issues. The young artists take on the role of prophet as the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, conducted by Duncan Ward, fills the Conservatoire Darius Milhaud with fervour and grace.
