The Festival d’Aix-en-Provence is delighted to announce that, last night, Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide — Iphigénie en Tauride, the opening production of its 2024 edition, was awarded the prize for best production of the year at the 2024 International Opera Awards!

On Wednesday, October 2nd, during the INTERNATIONAL OPERA AWARDS ceremony at the Prinzregententheater in Munich (Germany), the 2024 production Iphigénie en Aulide — Iphigénie en Tauride won the NEW PRODUCTION AWARD among five other candidates.

This accolade is the result of an exceptional collaborative effort by the artists of the new production — both the creators and the performers — who completed this extraordinary marathon of four and a half hours of music. This extraordinary diptych made up of Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide and Iphigénie en Tauride, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm and staged by Dmitri Tcherniakov, was a Festival Project in its purest form. Lauded this summer for its precision, its coherence, and its narrative and musical power, the bipartite production depicts humanity distilled onto a family scale, revealed the machinations of an endless cycle of violence, and posed the question of what power any one of us has to put a stop to that violence. A question that could not be more topical.

The Festival d’Aix extends its thanks to everyone who supported this artistic adventure, including public and private partners, donors, and our co-producer (Greek National Opera).

You will soon be able to see the production again on stage, from 10 to 30 October, at the Greek National Opera in Athens; or you can watch the version already online on #THEDIGITALSTAGE thanks to our media partner ARTE!
