Tuesday, July 23, 2024[ ENOA ] A LOOK BACK ON THE EMPOWERING OPERA PROGRAMME
The Empowering Opera programme of the enoa network (European Network of Opera Academies) comes to an end on 31 August. Launched in November 2020 and implemented by a consortium of 12 European partners, coordinated by the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, the aim of the programme was to encourage, support and disseminate innovative opera projects that would tell new stories in tune with contemporary society. It also aimed to break down the artistic and financial barriers and unconscious biases that hinder the emergence of new artistic expressions at all levels of the opera sector: from training and artist recruitment to opera production and programming.
The 12 enoa partners met in Aix-en-Provence on 8 and 9 July to look back over the four years of the programme: 9 opera commissions and 6 world premieres, 35 training workshops for artists, 29 creation laboratories, 25 training sessions on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and 600 artists took part in the programme’s activities. It's a real success, and we've more than achieved our objectives!
This video offers a look back on the programme highlights and activities.
— In 15 years of existence, enoa has provided support to over 2,000 artists, has developed and launched European tours for 22 operatic co-productions, 17 of which were world premieres. enoa is a European network of opera academies which supports and accompanies artists from the operatic sector – creative artists and performers – in developing their professional careers. Today it totals 6 partners and 14 associate partners, including Europe’s most important operatic institutions. The creation of enoa in 2009 and its first few years of activity (2011-2015) enabled its partners to pool and promote artistic training and development workshops. The launch and implementation of its Young Opera Makers (2016-2020) programme was the perfect springboard for partners to test innovative professional integration pathways and creative processes on a Europe-wide scale. With the Empowering Opera programme, the network has once again demonstrated its ability to innovate, thanks to ever greater cooperation between all the partners.
