The auditions of the young artists you will hear in June and July 2024 at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence are underway. Singers, pianists and harpsichordist vocal coaches and a woman conductor in career development, they will take part in the Voice Residency of the Académie from 17 June to 9 July 2024 with Barbara Hannigan, Darrell Babidge (Juilliard School) and Emmanuelle Haïm!
Following in the footsteps of previous residencies for the last 25 years, the 2024 Voice Residency explores even further the reflection on the profession of opera singers, pianists singing coaches, harpsichordists singing coaches, and conductors. The 2024 Voice Residency will provide participants public visibility, and a unique opportunity to expand their artistic and professional networks along with a stimulating setting. Darrell Babidge, vocal teacher and chair of the voice faculty at The Juilliard School in New York will share his expertise and advice with the artists. In addition, the Académie has invited soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan — with her passion for a wide vocal repertoire and her uninhibited vision of the opera artist’s profession — to lead the first two weeks of the programme. The residency will conclude with a concert programmed as part of the Festival, combining musicians from Le Concert d'Astrée, their musical director Emmanuelle Haïm, and the artists of the residency. In addition to this closing concert, the participants in the 2024 Voice Residency will also be involved in a series of private and public activities: master classes, two concerts as part of Aix en juin and musical group events (Passerelles department of the Festival) through a repertoire of French Baroque music, great opera arias, arias and art songs written since 1970, and a world premiere (commissioned by the Académie).
