REPORT | MYO - 2015 Symphonic session

As part of the Académie du Festival d'Aix, the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO) offers talented young musicians in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and the Mediterranean basin an immersion in the professional life of ensemble and orchestra musicians. For 30 years now, it has placed creation and intercultural exchanges at the heart of its programmes and transmitted the pleasure of performing the symphonic repertory composed for large orchestras.
Every year, some one hundred young Mediterranean musicians representing 20 or so different nationalities attend the MYO's sessions. They receive high-level training and benefit from the presence of the prestigious artists in residence at the Festival d'Aix.

In 2015, the MYO organised three programmes for young Mediterranean musicians:
- A session devoted to symphonic practice, directed by Carlo Rizzi with tutoring from London Symphony Orchestra musicians
- A session devoted to intercultural collective composition for young improvisational musicians (traditional music, jazz, etc.) under the guidance of Fabrizio Cassol
- A professional integration session where confirmed MYO musicians participate in creation of a children's opera – The Monster in the Maze (Jonathan Dove) – alongside London Symphony Orchestra musicians and under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle
