For a single concert in Aix-en-Provence, the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Ingo Metzmacher will unveil an unprecedented programme. To the first ever French performance of the work Über der Linie VIII by Wolfgang Rihm, the final stage of a cycle on instrumental lyricism, undertaken twenty years ago and here broadened to meet the dimensions of a large orchestra, will reply the captivating Lied von der Erde by Gustav Mahler, interpreted by the duo Sarah Connolly and Andreas Schager. This suite of six symphonic lieder, inspired by ancient Chinese poems, suggests the earth, nature, time passing, solitude, farewell… So many themes which are not without reminding us of those of the opera Jakob Lenz by the same Wolfgang Rihm, presented this summer at the Festival.
This concert is part of the label Incises, which distinguishes the contemporary programmes from the Festival d'Aix. This label is supported by the Sacem.
