Joseph Haydn Trio n.43 in C major Hob.XV: 27
Maurice Ravel Trio
The three women who make up the Trio Sōra, winners in April 2017 of the Parkhouse Award Competition in London and 2017 HSBC Laureate, are back at the Académie du Festival d’Aix to interpret two piano trios by Joseph Haydn and by Maurice Ravel.
John Chest (baritone) — 2015 HSBC Laureate
Marcelo Amaral (piano)
Associated with pianist Marcelo Amaral, John Chest presents Die Schöne Maguelone by Johannes Brahms. Of all the rich lieder production composed by Brahms, Romances of Maguelone by Ludwig Tieck op.33 is the only true cycle. Brahms knew these folk tales since childhood but it is thanks to Schumann that he discovered the novel by Ludwig Tieck. The work is representative of this poetic and idealized reinvention of the Middle Ages, characteristic of German Romanticism.
"It is especially the epic scale of the cycle - a real pocket opera supported by a piano writing of great complexity - that strikes the listener" writes Timothée Picard in the booklet.
