Conducted by Rolan Hayrabedian, six singers from the Musicatreize ensemble and six cellists, led by Frédéric Audibert, musically evoke three exiled women with tragic fates: Ariadne—the daughter of the king of Crete— who was abandoned by Theseus on the island of Naxos (Monteverdi’s Lamento d’Arianna), Dido, the Tyrian princess who founded Carthage (Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas) and Marina Tsvetaeva, the Russian poet who was persecuted by the Stalin regime (Joséphine Stephenson’s Lands Unseen).
