METROPOLIS, by Fritz Lang
Music by Gottfried Huppertz (1927)
With Metropolis, Fritz Lang directed in 1927 one of the most iconic films in the history of the cinema. As with Mahogonny by Brecht and Weill of which it is the antithesis, its authoritarian city with its vertiginous profile plunges its foundations into the cultural effervescence of the Golden Twenties and the socio-political troubles which precipitated the decline of the Weimar Republic. The concert proposed by the Philharmonia Orchestra, will enable the rediscovery of this science-fiction classic accompanied by its original music, strongly influenced by Wagner, Strauss and Schoenberg.
