MELANCHOLIA

CINEMA CYCLE

Cinéma Le Mazarin — Aix-en-Provence
14 June

The film Melancholia, which caused a sensation at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, became imprinted on our minds with the masterful opening sequence, a dreamlike and aestheticized portrayal of the end of the world set to the heady prelude of Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. It is a powerful reflection on depression and the human condition by Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier, driven by the visionary performances of Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
