THE WORLD REFLECTED IN OPERA: FESTIVAL D'AIX-EN-PROVENCE 2007 - 2017 (ACTES SUD)

Tuesday, June 5

A birthday book that covers the last twelve years of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and its sixty operatic productions. It is obvious that the Festival d'Aix never favoured a single style or aesthetic- it followed a path of creation and pursued the direction of providing meaning to our world. It is a firmly held conviction that has carried the Festival d'Aix team over the years.

In 2008, Actes Sud published a book for the sixtieth anniversary of the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Ten years later, the Arlesian publishing house uses images to detail its recent history, revealing the many transformations in opera at the start of the century. Emotions, favourites and memories to be shared with as many people as possible, so that opera continues and remains relevant.

[...] Browsing through twelve years of images, I have relived the moments where we searched for perfection, the discussions, tensions, joys and difficulties, the painstaking trial runs and the glittering final productions. And I can clearly see their approach, the threads that ran through our work[...].

Bernard Foccroulle, General Director of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence
