Creative Europe (the European Union Program for the Cultural and Creative Sectors) has just selected Medinea [MEDiterranean Network for Emerging Artists] as part of a call for transnational cooperation projects linked to the Année européenne du patrimoine culturel 2018.
Medinea is the Mediterranean network led by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Active in 18 countries in the Mediterranean basin, it links some thirty festivals, cultural centres, music trade fairs and higher learning institutions. Medinea supports the professional integration of young Mediterranean musicians by developing intercultural projects that promote dialogue, communication and mobility in the Mediterranean.
The Medinea project includes a series of activities carried out by three of its members the Festival d’Aix, the Centre culturel international de Hammamet (Tunisia) and the Ente Musicale di Nuoro (Italy). These activities aim to enhance the Mediterranean basin's musical heritage through collective and intercultural musical creation and to show how and why heritage can inspire contemporary creation.
Between June 2018 and May 2020, training courses for young musicians from all over the Euro-Mediterranean area will be organized in Hammamet, Nuoro and Aix-en-Provence over the next two years. They include two parts:
- four intercultural creation sessions in Hammamet and Nuoro, supervised by jazzman and composer Fabrizio Cassol, combining collective composition and musical meetings with the public;
- four mediation training workshops in Aix-en-Provence with implementation in practice, supervised by Mark Withers, mediator of the London Symphony Orchestra.
First session in Nuoro in August, coming up!
